The Moreno Valley Police Department’s School Resource Unit along with the Moreno Valley and Val Verde Unified School Districts conducted a citywide patrol on Thursday, Jan. 24.

The students were detained and taken back to their designated schools for disciplinary action and issued city administrative citations, Sgt. Larry Gyll stated in a Riverside County Sheriff’s press release.

Citation fines are $100 for the first offense, $200 for the second offense and $500 for the third offense.

Officials hope the program will emphasize the importance of school attendance and how “it correlates with student success in the future.”

Sgt. Gyll added the sweep exceeded expectations and daytime curfew sweeps are planned for the future.
