The annual Tri-City Medical Center Carlsbad Marathon and Half-Marathon is scheduled for today.

Runners are scheduled to depart from Westfield Plaza Camino Real shortly after 6 a.m. and head west, then turn south down the city’s shoreline.

From there, the half-marathoners will turn back. Those running the full 26.2 miles will add a leg out past McClellan-Palomar Airport.

The race will finish back at the shopping center, where a health and lifestyle expo will be held under a 20,000-square-foot tent.

Like the Rock ‘n Roll Marathon in San Diego, musical acts will perform along the route to encourage the runners.

Proceeds are set to benefit 21 organizations, including the Alzheimer’s Association, the American Liver Foundation, Fresh Start Surgical Gifts, the Joe & Mary Mottino Family YMCA, Labrador Rescuers and San Diego Youth Services.
