A clerk at a Lake Elsinore AM/PM mini-mart was uninjured after he confronted three men who were attempting to steal items from the store, officials reported.
According to the employee, three men entered the market just after 5 p.m., on Sunday Jan. 27 in the 16800 block of Lakeshore Drive and tried to leave the store with merchandise stuffed in their clothes.
A scuffle broke out between one of the suspects and the clerk when he tried to stop them from leaving the store. All three fled the scene.
A few minutes later, officers found 20-year-old Lake Elsinore resident Tommie Lee Nelson and detained him. A search of Nelson revealed items taken from the store.
“He was also identified as one of the suspects responsible for assaulting the store clerk,” Riverside County Sheriff’s Sgt. Ken Chaffin stated in a sheriff’s report.
Nelson was arrested and booked into the Southwest Detention Center.
The other suspects, described as Hispanic juvenile males, remain at large.
