A possible robbery that began Monday night at the Denny’s in Temecula ended dramatically when the driver of a black sedan, followed by a white pickup truck and at least a half dozen patrol cars, crashed on the southbound I-15 on-ramp at California Oaks Rd. in Murrieta.
Riverside County Sheriff’s deputy Albert Martinez confirmed that police were searching for a robbery suspect, but added that information was still being collected.
The incident occurred shortly before 8 p.m.
Initial unconfirmed radio reports suggested that the robbery may have been a drug deal gone bad, leading to a car chase.
A suspect was taken into custody at the scene of the crash, according to SWRNN reporter Joe Fanaselle.
A white Chevy Silverado that was possibly involved int he chase was stopped at the crash site.
Police scoured the surrounding area, including Shivela Middle School and the nearby sports park in search of a possible second unconfirmed suspect, but found no one at the time of this post.
This is a developing story.
