Army official to show fuel saving prototype in Los Angeles

A top Army technology officer will discuss how the world’s biggest fuel consumer is working to increase efficiencies, reduce consumption and develop new vehicles at a Feb. 5 Motor Press Guild luncheon.

Grace M. Bochenek, chief technology officer for Army Materiel Command, also will show off the Army’s Fuel-Efficient Demonstrator Alpha, or FED Alpha, a prototype that combines a high-efficiency diesel engine, low resistance tires, an integrated starter generator, six speed automatic transmission and lightweight low drag braking system.

According to the Los Angeles-based Motor Press Guild, the Army is the world’s biggest fuel consumer and operates one of the world’s biggest ground fleets.
