The shooting on the second floor of a medical building at 520 Superior Ave.was reported at 2:45 p.m., Monday Jan. 28, said Kathy Lowe of the Newport Beach Police Department.

The victim was Dr. Ronald Franklin Gilbert of Huntington Beach, who would have turned 53 Wednesday, said Orange County sheriff’s spokesman Jim Amormino.

When officers arrived they found the victim and the suspect, who was taken into custody without incident, Lowe said.

Authorities did not immediately release the name of the suspect, who is believed to have been one of Gilbert’s patients, or advance a theory of motive.

Gilbert, a husband and father of two reported to have been active in his synagogue, was a urologist at Orange Coast Urology.

The body was scheduled for an autopsy this morning.
