A transient accused of fatally beating a 74-year-old man with a baseball bat at a Lakewood Walmart store was ordered today to stand trial on a murder charge.
Richard Lawrence Kalfin, 48, will be arraigned Feb. 13 in Norwalk.
In December, Kalfin was found mentally competent to stand trial for the Nov. 1, 2011, slaying of David Oakleaf.
Oakleaf, who lived in Lakewood, was attacked in the sporting goods section of the store at 2770 Carson St.
Kalfin was detained by Walmart security officers and arrested by sheriff’s deputies from the Lakewood station.
