The blast at the Heritage Inn in the 3300 block of Channel Way, just south of Interstate 8, was reported about 11:15 a.m., according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

Medics treated the victims at the scene and took at least one of them to UCSD Medical Center for treatment of possibly serious burns, a dispatcher said.

Emergency personnel, meanwhile, evacuated the hotel’s third floor, where the explosion occurred.

The source of the ignition was not immediately clear, though preliminary evidence indicated that it might have occurred as someone was “cooking” an illegal drug in a rented room, 10News reported.
