A Hemet homeowner’s cool thinking during a burglary attempt helped police catch the two boys allegedly responsible for the aborted break-in, authorities said today.
A woman called 911 on Tuesday morning to report that two suspects were trying to force their way into her house in the 400 block of Yale Street, first by prying open the front door, and when that failed, by trying to crawl through a bathroom window, said Hemet police Lt. Eric Dickson.
Officers swarmed the location, he said.
“The homeowner remained on the phone with dispatch, providing updates on the suspects’ descriptions and movements,” Dickson said. “As the first officers arrived, the suspects fled the scene, jumping through yards and running down adjoining streets.”
Officers found the alleged burglars — both male juveniles — hiding in a nearby apartment complex and arrested them without incident, Dickson said.
The youths, whose names were withheld because they are underage, were both booked into Southwest Juvenile Hall.
