Officers on routine patrol saw the man casing vehicles in the area of Vista del Mar Avenue around 4:30 a.m., according to San Diego police Officer Frank Cali.

The man, who was driving a pickup, failed to yield to officers and drove onto Interstate 5, Cali said.

San Diego police chased the man at around 65 miles per hour as far as Garnet Avenue in Pacific Beach, where California Highway Patrol officers took over the pursuit.

The chase ended at the U.S./Mexico border, where Border Patrol agents got involved and ultimately Tasered the man before his arrest, Cali said.

The chase, which never went above normal freeway speeds, ended shortly before 5:15 a.m., he said.
