An SUV struck a nanny as she pushed a baby carriage in a crosswalk on a Black Mountain Ranch street today, killing her and injuring the 13-month-old boy strapped in the stroller, authorities reported.
The accident at Camino del Sur and Via Verrazzano happened about 11:45 a.m., according to San Diego police.
Medics took the gravely injured woman to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla, where she was pronounced dead. The baby was taken to Rady Children’s
Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, including scrapes and bruises, SDPD public-affairs Lt. Andra Brown said.
The driver of the Toyota 4Runner involved in the accident was uninjured, though her vehicle sustained heavy damage.
It was not immediately clear who was at fault for the crash, Brown said.
The name of the deceased woman, who was in her mid-20s, was withheld pending notification of kin.
