Two employees of a North Park check cashing store carrying a money bag were robbed on the way to the bank by an armed suspect
A man and a woman working for Check ‘N’ Go at 1264 University Ave. were walking on Cleveland Avenue to a Bank of America branch when the robber pushed the woman to the ground before grabbing her money bag and fleeing with it, San Diego Police officer Frank Cali said.
“The employee fought with the suspect,” Cali said. “During the struggle, the suspect displayed a silver handgun. The employee gave up the money bag.”
Cali said the suspect ran east on Cleveland before possibly getting into a black Volkswagen Jetta.
The amount of stolen money was not disclosed, but the woman’s cell phone and identification were taken.
The suspect was described as a Hispanic male in his 20s with neck tattoos wearing a black baseball cap, black hooded sweatshirt and jeans.
No one was injured. The SDPD Robbery Unit was investigating.
