A Texas 12-year-old was facing possible charges today for allegedly threatening to shoot a Perris middle school student and blow up the school, a sheriff’s sergeant said.
Deputies were sent to Lakeside Middle School around 12:35 p.m. Thursday after learning that an unknown suspect posted on an Internet message board a threat to shoot a student and blow up the school, said Sgt. Ryan Hoxmeier.
Sheriff’s investigators served a series of search warrants to Internet service providers and on Friday learned the message was posted by a 12-year-old living in Texas, Hoxmeier said.
“Investigators worked with Texas law enforcement authorities to identify and contact the juvenile,” Hoxmeier said. “The suspect admitted guilt and has since forwarded an apology letter. At this time, it does not appear the suspect or victim knew one another prior to this incident.”
Local investigators were working with authorities in Texas to determine what charges might be filed against the youth, he said.
