An officer from the La Quinta Police Department happened upon the scene just after 4 a.m., on Monday Feb. 4 at Avenue 52, east of Desert Club Drive in La Quinta.

Initial investigations revealed 23-year-old Beatriz Garcia was driving westbound on Avenue 52 when she left the roadway and slammed into a palm tree.

Garcia appeared to be driving while impaired and was arrested. She was later released and transported to a hospital for treatment of moderate head injuries sustained in the crash.

“Charges of driving under the influence will be filed with the District Attorney’s Office,” Sgt. Vasquez stated in a Riverside County Sheriff’s press release.

Anyone with further details regarding this incident is urged to contact the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department at 760-863-8990.
