More than 500 students from 26 Riverside County high schools teams will compete in the 30th Annual Riverside County Mock Trial competition beginning today at regional courts in Indio, Temecula and Riverside.

The competition begins at 6 p.m.
Mock Trial involves students arguing cases in front of real judges and scored by real attorneys. Since 1983, more than 10,000 students have participated in Mock Trial in Riverside County.
This year students will argue People vs. Vega. Vega is charged with felony hit-and-run stemming from an accident.
The event is sponsored by the Riverside County Office of Education, Riverside County Bar Association, and the Riverside Superior Courts.

The awards ceremony to announce Elite Eight teams and Blue Ribbon Award winners will be held at 2:00 p.m. on February 23, 2013, at the Moreno Valley Conference and Recreation Center.

The awards ceremony to announce first place team will be held Saturday, March 2, 2013, at the Riverside Historic Courthouse, following the final round.
The winning team will go on to represent Riverside County at the California State Mock Trial Competition being held in Sacramento from March 22-24, 2013.
