An 18-year-old man who was seen walking on the Santa Ana (5) Freeway in Downey was struck and killed today by a car that left the scene, authorities said.
The man was later identified as Brandon Xavier Rios, a resident of Los Angeles, according to a statement from the California Highway Patrol.
The crash on the southbound side of the freeway at Lakewood Boulevard was reported at 1:18 a.m., according to the CHP.
Rios walked into the left lane, directly in front of the car, according to the CHP.
He died at the scene, said CHP Officer Monica Posada.
