A 26-year-old man was wounded in a shooting in Vista and sheriff’s deputies today sought the gunman, a sheriff’s sergeant said.
Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the vicinity of North Santa Fe Avenue and East East Drive on a report of shots fired about 7 p.m. Saturday,” but were unable to find anything out of the ordinary,” according to sheriff’s Sgt. David Perkins.
A man turned up in the emergency room at Tri-City Hospital in Oceanside about a half-hour later with a gunshot wound, Perkins said. He told deputies he was shot earlier in the area by an unknown man in his early 20s, the sergeant said.
“The victim claimed after he had been shot, the male suspect fled the scene on foot,” Perkins said in a statement.
The victim was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and had stable life signs, according to Perkins.
Detectives were investigating, he said.
Sheriff’s officials asked that anyone with information about the shooting call 858-565-5200, or contact Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
