A Coachella woman plowed her car into a tree today and was arrested for suspicion of drunken driving, a sheriff’s sergeant said.
Sheriff’s deputies received a call at 3:44 a.m. and went to Mecca Street, south of Avenue 51, in Coachella where they found the vehicle,
Riverside County sheriff’s Sgt. Randy Vasquez said.
The driver, later identified as Graciela Ortiz, 20, suffered minor injuries and was taken to an area hospital.
Deputies determined Ortiz was under the influence of either drugs or alcohol when she drove alone and arrested her, Vasquez said.
Ortiz was released because of her injuries, but Vasquez said drunken driving charges will be filed with the Riverside County District Attorneys’ Office.
