The MSJC women’s soccer team coming off their best season since 2005, had three players sign scholarships to Minot State University on Thursday, Feb. 7.

The Lady Eagles who finished the season 10-4-5 had the school’s best winning percentage since 2005 and the programs most victories since 2007 under first year head coach Chauncey Hayes.
First Team All Foothill Conference selections Jamie Ayala and Yuvitza Garcia and Second Team All Conference pick Taylor Wolf were the three players to sign on Thursday.
Ayala led the Foothill Conference in goals this past season with 13. Ayala, who also had 2 assists this season, along with Wolf were the Lady Eagles team captains.
Garcia finished the season with 7 goals and 5 assists leading all midfielders in the Foothill Conference in scoring. Garcia played just one season at MSJC after playing her freshman season at San Bernardino Valley.
Wolf led the Foothill Conference in save percentage, stopping over 91% of shots on goal by the Eagles opponents. Wolf also recorded seven shutouts in 19 games.
It was somewhat coincidental that all three ended up signing with Minot State, a team that qualified for the NCAA Division II National Tournament last year, but they are happy to be going together.
Wolf, who was the only one of the three to make a recruiting visit, said she was sold early in her trip that Minot was the place for her.
“I was a little skeptical at first because of the weather,” said Wolf, “But when I got around the team and the coaches I really liked it,” Ayala said, adding that she chose Minot, “Because it is a really nice school and the soccer team is great, I also like the fact that they are at the Division II level.”
As far as the turn around at MSJC this season the three players had high praise for their former head coach.
“I would definitely tell recruits to come to MSJC,” said Ayala “If they are serious about becoming better and are committed this is a great place to be,” Wolf added.
“Coach (Hayes) had high expectations of us and made us the best we can be.”
Garcia also felt good about her decision to come to MSJC for her sophomore season, “I just felt a great connection to the team and to the coaches here, it was a really comfortable situation.”
Coach Hayes returned the compliments saying that these three players along with his other sophomores gave him a good feeling: “It made us realize we were doing things the right way.”
