The fatal crash was reported around 9 p.m. on the east side of Pacific Coast Highway at John Tyler Drive, said Sgt. James Braden of the Los Angeles County sheriff’s Malibu/Lost Hills Station.

The tow truck driver, a man believed to be in his 40′s, was pronounced dead at the scene, Braden said.

The woman whose car hit him continued driving east on Pacific Coast Highway for about two miles before she struck a parked car near the Malibu Pier, Braden said.

She was taken to a hospital for treatment and was being investigated for felony hit-and-run and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, he said.

The crashes and subsequent investigation prompted the closure of both eastbound lanes of Pacific Coast Highway near John Tyler Drive and one eastbound lane near Malibu Pier, Braden said.
