Rancho Penasquitos: Balloon crashers win honeymoon on ‘Katie’

An Iowa couple that became known as the “Wedding Crashers” when their hot air balloon went down unexpectedly in Rancho Penasquitos just after they exchanged wedding vows won a honeymoon trip today on “Katie,” the talk show hosted by Katie Couric.

Jonathan and Kerin Narcisse were among 14 people in the balloon’s gondola when it crashed on Jan. 7. A video of the incident went viral on the Internet.

Kerin, a former chaplain at the soon-to-close San Diego Hospice, suffered a concussion in the crash into the yard of a house in the 13100 block of Avenida del General.

“Katie” hosted three couples who suffered wedding disasters, including a pair who went through a sandstorm and another whose entire wedding party became soaked when the pier they stood on collapsed while they were taking photographs.

“I always wanted to be married in a hot air balloon,” Kerin said on the show. “Living in San Diego, you see them all the time in the air and I’m, like, that is the perfect place to be married.”

Jonathan conceded that he’s “terrified” of heights went along with it because of his love for Kerin.

“Man up for 45 minutes, lifetime of bliss,” Jonathan said. “It was an easy decision — I’d do it again.”

His wife said one moment she was in paradise, getting married to the man she loved and then found herself going through a near-death experience.

According to the Times-Republican of Marshalltown, Iowa, Jonathan Narcisse is a newspaper editor and former candidate for governor of Iowa. Kerin is about to start a new job as hospice chaplain at Iowa Health System, the newspaper reported.

First, the couple will get to stay at the Sagamore Hotel in Miami Beach.
