A 39-year-old man who used various scams to defraud women whose trust he gained on dating websites was arrested today, authorities said.
Santa Clarita resident Jeffrey Elvington admitted to detectives he used various scams to perpetrate his fraud, authorities said.
“He came up with different professions like chef, military man and private investigator” to gain their trust and credit card information, and with that information, he purchased high end electronics he then sold, according to Sgt. James Anderson of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
Five victims have been identified and all but one of them was in the Santa Clarita area.
Detectives hope to identify additional victims because Elvington has been running the scams for about two years, Anderson said.
