Body of missing Lake Elsinore man found

The body of a man believed to be that of missing Lake Elsinore resident Craig Staneart was discovered this morning, it was learned.

According to Riverside County Sheriff’s Deputy Myling Bordeaux, the body was found by horseback riders at about 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 15 in a wash area near Baker and Pierce streets.

“The riders recognized the gentleman from the flyer and called police,” Bordeaux said.

Staneart, 63, had wandered away from his home at about 5:20 p.m., on Thursday Feb. 7 in the 29000 block of Maes Avenue, according to Riverside County Sheriff’s Sgt.  Marc Cloutier.

Officials had said that Staneart suffered from Alzheimer’s disease and was “prone to extreme confusion.”

The cause of death is under investigation, Bordeaux said.
