Lake Elsinore man killed in I-15 crash near Ontario

A Lake Elsinore man’s boom truck rear-ended a sedan at an Interstate 15 interchange in Ontario, then plowed into two stopped trucks, killing him.

The San Bernardino County Coroner’s Office said Blane Kirby, 47, was driving a 1983 Ford boom truck Wednesday on the southbound Jurupa Street off-ramp of Interstate 15 in Ontario.

His truck inexplicably rammed a Toyota Corolla that was stopped at a red light at about 10:47 a.m., the coroner’s office reported.

Kirby’s truck continued across Jurupa Street and crashed into two trucks that were stopped at the intersection’s eastbound lanes.

Kirby was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the coroner.

A boom truck is a utility vehicle with an extendable arm that is usually mounted on its bed.
