Canadians get in free today at Date Fest in Indio

Canadians will be admitted free today to the Riverside County Fair & National Date Festival, where they can get a taste of home.

Canadian residents should bring proof of residency — a valid passport, license or identification card.

Last year’s inaugural Canada Day brought 1,850 Canadians to the fair, spokeswoman Veronica Casper said.

Poutine — a Canadian dish with French fries, gravy and cheese curds –will be served by the Gravy Train Poutinerie food truck today, Saturday and Sunday.

The fair runs through Feb. 24 at 82-503 Highway 111 in Indio.

Fair hours are 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. General admission is $9 for adults, $8 for seniors, $7 for youths and $6 for those on group bus tours.

Children 5 and under are free.

Other admission specials include:

  •  Kids’ Day tomorrow, when one child gets free admission with each paid adult ticket.
  • `O’Reilly Thursday,” with free admission the day after tomorrow with proof of a minimum $5 purchase from O’Reilly Auto Parts since Feb. 1.
  • Fantasy $5 Friday, when everyone other than children under 5 will get in for $5.
