Idyllwild: Driver loses control on icy roads, rams into tree

Icy roads and worsening weather conditions in the San Jacinto mountains were a likely factor when a motorist lost control of her vehicle and hit a tree.

The woman was driving a Toyota SUV when it slammed head-on into a tree at about 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 19  on Highway 243 near South Circle Dr. in Idyllwild.

The driver was transported by ground ambulance to a nearby hospital by Idyllwild Fire.

The extent of her injuries was not known at this time.

The highway was closed to all traffic while the scene was cleared by Idyllwild Fire crews and Idyllwild Garage.
