Border Patrol agents spotted two men carrying large backpacks near the U.S. border in Campo about 11:45 p.m.,  Tuesday Feb. 19 and followed their footprints to a 1999 GMC Safari van parked next to an Airstream trailer, according to the federal agency.

The 48- and 52-year-old men were detained as they tried to hide in the van and drug-sniffing dogs alerted the agents to the trailer, which contained 73 bundles of pot with an estimated street value of nearly $600,000, according to the Border Patrol.

The suspects and the drugs were turned over to the sheriff’s Narcotics Task Force, and the Border Patrol seized the vehicle, authorities said.
