A San Diego man who produced videos of him having sex with young girls while he was in Vietnam to teach English classes was sentenced today to 35 years in federal prison.
During the second day of his trial, 58-year-old David Kinh Duc Tran pleaded guilty to five counts of producing child pornography outside of the United States.
U.S. District Judge Thomas Whelan also ordered the defendant to register as a sex offender.
According to court documents, Tran said he lived in Vietnam for about two years and returned to the United States before his arrest in August 2010.
Based on a tip, the San Diego Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force executed a search warrant on Tran’s motel room on Aug. 19, 2010.
Agents seized a laptop computer that, when analyzed, revealed a video of the defendant teaching English in Vietnam and videos of him having sex with girls who appeared to be between 6 and 12 years old, prosecutors said.
