Police: Lake Elsinore teens caught burglarizing home

Two Lake Elsinore residents were arrested for allegedly breaking into a home in an apparent burglary, police said today.

Geron Smithson, 18, and a 16-year-old minor who was not identified, were taken into custody after a homeowner discovered the pair in  his home with a bag full of his property at about 11:30 a.m. on Feb. 27 in the 15100 block of Etienne St. in Lake Elsinore, according to a Riverside County Sheriff’s Department report.

“The suspects fled the residence when confronted by the victim and jumped a fence to the rear of the property. Officers responded to the area quickly and established a perimeter around the neighborhood with the assistance of the Riverside County Sheriff’s helicopter,” said Sgt. Patrick J. Chavez in the report.

Smithson was located in the area of Teakwood and Terra Cotta and the minor was located on Lincoln St. and Via Cordova, Chavez said.

Both suspects were transported to the Lake Elsinore Police Department and Smithson was later transported to the Southwest Detention Center.

The-16-year juvenile suspect was transported to the Southwest Juvenile Hall.
