Practice grenade creates scare in Pacific Beach

A suspicious device found behind a McDonald’s restaurant in the 4700 block of Mission Bay Drive in Pacific Beach shortly before 10 a.m. turned out to be a non-explosive practice hand grenade, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

The business was closed and the surrounding area blocked off to the public for about a half-hour while a bomb squad investigated and gave an all-clear, a dispatcher says.
