Physicians will talk about colorectal cancer at Eisenhower Medical Center’s annual Community Cancer Awareness Day on March 9, a hospital spokeswoman said today.

The event will be held at Eisenhower’s Lucy Curci Cancer Center.
Colorectal surgeon Scott Gering, hematology and oncology specialist Henry Tsai and gastroenterologist James Conti will speak and answer questions about prevention, detection and treatment options of colorectal cancer, one of the most common cancers affecting Americans, according to Eisenhower spokeswoman Lee Rice.
“Colon cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer death in America,” Gering said. “But with a colonoscopy, many of these cancers can be prevented. During a colonoscopy, pre-cancerous polyps can be removed which will prevent cancer from developing. Moreover, early detection of pre-cancerous polyps is the best way to prevent cancer from developing and killing someone.”
People who attend Community Cancer Awareness Day can also tour the cancer center and get information on cancer treatment and prevention and the center’s education programs, Rice said.
