East-to-northeast winds of 20 to 35 mph with local gusts of up to 50 mph at times are expected to blow through and below mountain passes and canyons, and near the foothills, according to the National Weather Service, which issued a wind advisory set to remain in effect until 2 p.m. Friday.

The advisory does not include the Coachella Valley but does cover the Santa Ana Mountains and foothills.

Drivers, especially those in high-profile vehicles, were advised to use extra caution.

“Gusty cross winds may make travel difficult at times along I-10, and the 60 and 210 freeways below the Cajon Pass,” according to the advisory.

“Watch for broken tree limbs and downed power lines.”

The winds are expected to increase this morning, then weaken this afternoon and evening, according to the weather service.
