The shooting reportedly happened at 12:12 p.m.,at K & A Market at Avenue 44 and Towne Street.

The boy had been involved in a confrontation with two other males and he was shot once, Indio Police Department spokesman Ben Guitron said.

The suspects ran north on Towne.

Jackson Elementary School, which is about two blocks from the market, was locked down for 30 minutes while police looked for the suspects, Guitron said.

He said the victim was taken to a hospital and his wound wasn’t life threatening.

One suspect had a handgun and another had a rifle, according to Guitron, who said he didn’t have further descriptions.

“Unfortunately, the victim is not being very cooperative with us so we’re basically going with what was seen in the area,” he said.

Anyone with information about the shooting was asked to call police at 760-391-4057 or Coachella Valley Crime Stoppers at 760-341-7867.
