Update: Intense fire destroys home outside of Temecula

UPDATE @ 10 p.m.: According to Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Jody Hagemann, the American Red Cross was requested by the Incident Commander to assist one adult and two minors who were displaced.

The home was gutted by fire and is a total loss.

One civilian was evaluated at the scene for minor smoke inhalation, but wast not transported to a hospital.

The fire had at first threatened to spread to nearby vegetation as it ripped through surrounding palm trees, but firefighters were able to quickly attack and contain the blaze.

No further injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.

ORIGINAL: Cal Fire crews are on the scene of a house fire  in the 37200 block of Benton Road near Tucolata Hills Rd., east of Temecula, it was reported.

According to Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Jody Hagemann, the incident was first reported at 5:59 p.m.

When firefighters arrived, they found that the occupants of the home had safely escaped the blaze.

Eleven engines and 42 firefighters have responded to the scene.
