Torrey Pines: 72-year-old man sustains life threatening injury in bicycle accident

A 72-year-old man fell from his from his bike while riding in the Torrey Pines State Reserve today and suffered a life-threatening head injury, a police sergeant said.

The bicyclist was headed downhill in the 11600 block of North Torrey Pines Road toward Torrey Pines State Beach when he lost control of the bike and fell about 8:30 a.m., San Diego police Sgt. Ray Battrick said.

He was wearing a helmet, but sustained a life-threatening head injury, Battrick said. The injured rider was taken to a hospital, the sergeant said.
