Students from Riverside’s four college campuses will go hunting for clues today in a scavenger hunt-style contest offering monetary rewards and the opportunity for participants to get to know the city — and each other.

The second annual “Amazing College Race-Riverside” is slated to begin at 1 p.m. outside City Hall.

“This event showcases Riverside as a city of innovation, energy and enthusiasm — just like our 55,000 college students,” said Mayor Rusty Bailey.

“We hope to connect students to their community, (help them) begin building peer networks and to showcase the many arts, entertainment and cultural amenities available downtown.”

Students from California Baptist University, La Sierra University, Riverside City College and UC Riverside are expected to take part in the 90-minute competition.

Contestants will spend all of their time in the downtown area, searching for concealed items, each of which represents a certain number of points. The teams that amass the most points will win scholarships that cover textbook costs, according to organizers.

All of the young adults will receive T-shirts and complimentary meals.
