A head-on collision near Lake Mathews leaves a 69-year-old San Jacinto man dead and five others injured, California Highway Patrol officials reported today.

The accident happened at 3:35 a.m., Sunday March 3 on Cajalco Road, just east of Gavalin Road.
According to CHP reports, a man was driving a 2007 Toyota Yaris westbound on Cajalco Road when for unknown reasons he drifted into oncoming traffic and collided with a Chevrolet Silverado.
The driver of the Chevrolet, 39-year-old Refugio Garcia suffered major injuries. Two teen passengers also sustained major injuries. Another passenger, Blanca Garcia, 38, has minor injuries.
A passenger in another vehicle also sustained minor injuries.
All five people were taken to Riverside County Regional Medical Center.
The driver of the Yaris died at the scene.
His identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, CHP officer Steve Carapia stated.
