Palm Springs police today were investigating a head on collision that killed three people and left a fourth hospitalized.

The crash was reported at about 10:15 p.m., Sunday March 3 on Gene Autry Trail between Via Escuela and Interstate 10 Palm Springs, police Sgt. Mike Kovaleff said.
A northbound Chevrolet Impala veered into southbound lanes and collided with a Chrysler Pacifica, killing the Impala’s driver and passenger, he said.
The Pacifica’s driver and passenger were transported to a local hospital, where the driver died, he said.
The passenger, whose name was withheld, was hospitalized for serious injuries, Kovaleff said.
The names of those killed were withheld, pending the notification of their next of kin.
