Unhappy with ruling, juvenile flees court proceedings in Indio

A juvenile escaped during court proceedings in Indio today, but was quickly tracked down.

The escape was reported just before noon at the Juvenile Court at 47671 Oasis St., sheriff’s Lt. Ruben Navarro said.

“The juvenile was unhappy with his court proceedings and subsequently ran out of the courtroom,” Navarro said. “The courtroom deputy chased the juvenile and alerted patrol units in the area about the escape.”

The youth, whose name and age were withheld, was detained minutes later at Jackson Street and Avenue 48 and brought back to Juvenile Hall, where he was rebooked, Navarro said.

Navarro didn’t say why the juvenile was in court.
