Strong gusty winds were expected to buffet the Coachella Valley and the mountains of Riverside County later today.
The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory for the mountains and Coachella Valley from 6 p.m. today to 3 a.m. Thursday, saying sustained 20 to 30 mile per hour west winds and gusts up to 45 mph were likely due to a low pressure system moving into the region.
The strongest winds will be in this evening and Wednesday evening near ridge tops and along desert mountain slopes, and north and east of Interstate 10, according to the weather service.
“The winds will make driving difficult, especially for motorists with high profile vehicles,” an NWS advisory said. “Watch for broken tree limbs and downed power lines.”
