Chase Jeffrey White made his initial court appearance today on a felony rape count, but his arraignment was postponed, according to a court clerk.

A rescheduled date was not immediately available.

White was arrested Tuesday March 5, after police got a match in a DNA database linking White to the sexual assault, which occurred about 10 p.m. last Oct. 16, Tustin police Lt. Paul Garaven said.

A friend of the defendant held the girl down while White raped her, prosecutors allege.

The friend, who was not identified, has since died of an apparent drug overdose and was never charged, authorities said.

White could face up to nine years in prison if convicted, according to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.
