A Lake Elsinore man has been identified as the man who plummeted 75 feet to his death while rock climbing north of Rancho Cucamonga, the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department reported.
Firefighters and sheriff’s deputies received a call at 3:17 p.m. Tuesday and went to the area near Sapphire Falls, where Jacob Daniel Hernandez, 19, had been hiking and rock climbing with his cousin, coroner’s officials said.
Hernandez was pronounced dead at the scene about an hour after authorities received the call.
The apparent accident was in Cucamonga Canyon in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountain range, north of Rancho Cucamonga.
An autopsy was pending to determine the cause of Hernandez’s death, the coroner’s department reported.
