UPDATE @ 8:21 a.m. March 11: According to a Riverside County Sheriff’s Department report, a preliminary investigation has revealed that the driver of the white Mercedes was traveling northbound on Monte Vista when he failed to stop at a stop sign at Bundy Canyon Road before slamming into the red Mercury Tracer.
The female driver of the Tracer succumbed to injuries she received in the crash at Inland Valley Hospital. Her passenger — a white male — died at the scene.
The names of the couple have not been released pending notification of kin, however, a Riverside County Coroner’s report has identified each as Temecula residents.
ORIGINAL: Two cars crashed at a Wildomar intersection Sunday, killing one person and trapping one other who firefighters later freed, a fire spokeswoman said.
Firefighters were dispatched at 4:47 p.m. to Monte Vista Drive and Bundy Canyon Road where three people were involved in the collision.
Both victims were occupants inside an older model red Mercury sedan.
A cutting tool was used to free a trapped occupant who was sent to an area hospital in critical condition, Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Melody Hendrickson said.
The passenger in the Mercury died at the scene, while the third person — the driver of a white older model Mercedes sedan was not injured and declined medical treatment, Hendrickson said.
The driver of the Mercedes was cooperating with police, answering questions at the scene.
The cause of the crash is under investigation, Hendrickson said.
Bundy Canyon Road was closed in both directions and will affect commuters as the investigation continues.

My prayers go out to both families and I pray for recovery for the woman who is critically injured and peace and comfort for all those suffering a loss of a loved one in this accident.
You are both gone before your time at the hands of someone breaking a traffic law. So far with information we have from the article above.
Rest in peace and may your Lord carry loved ones, friends and family through this difficult time of sadness, anger and bring comfort and strength.
Until we can get drivers to realize that running red lights, stop signs, drinking and driving, wreckless driving, speeding, texting, talking on cell phone, fixing hair or makeup, and just an overall sense of entitlement to our roads, we are going to keep having our residents killed.
This traffic violation led to the killing of two people and this person should be charged with a minimum of manslaughter, after the fact, like with a DUI.
Which even a DUI violation does not get a long enough sentence for the death of another human being.
No one disobeying traffic laws will ever stop until the sentences fit the crime.
I wish I had the time to go through all our online news sources and count just how many deaths we have had from traffic violations in the last year in say a 10 mile square including our stretch of freeway from Temecula to Murrieta. Including DUI’s. Also followup on the stories to find out what kind of sentence the drivers got for the violation and murder.
I know there have been a few myself I have been waiting months and months to hear the outcome and nothing. Like its been covered up and all went so quiet on the case its like it didnt happen.
this was an accident, although a tragic one, if this person was not intoxicated, the fact that this person will have to live with this the rest of their life is far more than any judge, jury, or being put in jail could ever impose on them. My heart goes out to everybody involved. More so for the person who survived. What a cross to have to carry.
Please, drive safely people. I avoided two accidents in two days, just miles from home.
If people used their turning signals and turned off the high beam lights, I pray that would help prevent some of the deaths from negligent drivers.
May these two victims R.I.P, so sad for the families and their losses.
DOES ANYBODY HAVE AN UPDATE ON THIS ACCIDENT
