An American Airlines flight out of San Diego made an emergency landing in New York today after its crew detected a fuel-like odor in the cabin, an airline representative said.

The Boeing 767 — Flight 160 from Lindbergh Field — made a safe landing at John F. Kennedy International Airport, its scheduled destination, about 1:15 p.m., American Airlines spokesman Matt Miller said.
The plane was towed to a gate, and the 195 passengers and nine crew members exited without incident, with none complaining of any health issues.
The pilots had declared an emergency after noticing the odor while approaching the East Coast.
“It was more precautionary than anything else, to make sure they got a landing slot sooner rather than later,” Miller said.
The jet, which had departed San Diego about 7:30 a.m., will be out of service while maintenance crews determine the source of the problem, he said.
