Richard Crowell, 65, and and his 61-year-old wife, Sharon, both Irvine residents, were walking on the east side of Eastwood near the Venta Spur trail north of Bryan Avenue, when they were struck by a Honda about 7:30 a.m., Tuesday March 12, according to Irvine police Lt. Julia Engen.

Richard Crowell was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at an area hospital and his wife died at the scene.

The driver, a 17-year-old boy, was unhurt, Engen said.

The unidentified teen was driving to school when he veered off the road for unknown reasons, she said.

The Honda struck the victims before slamming into a retaining wall and a tree, Engen said.

Anyone with information about the fatal crash was asked to call police Sgt. Matt August at 949-724-7023.

  • Horrible thing to happen. Probably this kid was texting something ridiculous to his friends like “I will be at school in 5 minutes”. One text and the price is a dead couple whos was not suppose to die yet.
I hope they police find out why he swerved, and he is cited either way for wreckless driving causing the 2ndary collison, causing the death of two innocent people.
Neither drunk or sober matters. That he killed two people while in the commission of breaking other laws is all that matters. Its cause and affect.
Cell phone—wreckless driving, not paying attention, illegal
    Collison—after driving wrecklesslly
    Death–Causing death of 2 people.
Minimum manslaughter is what he should get. Its the same as a drunk driver, but hopefully we get this kid young enough to where when he does get out of jail he learns to obey traffic rules, laws of the road, like no texting. This should have been prevented.
