Rene Lugo was arrested without incident by police detectives and SWAT members about 11:40 a.m. at 4310 Arrecife Way, said Chula Vista police Lt. Eric Thunberg.

Lugo was wanted for allegedly firing shots outside Bobar Liquor at 3189 Main St. on March 8, Thunberg said. Witness statements and evidence recovered from the scene identified Lugo as the suspect who fired shots outside the liquor store before fleeing.

“Because the suspect was a third-striker, and because of the weapons charge, a decision was made once a warrant was obtained to use SWAT,” Thunberg said. “SWAT surrounded the house and called for the suspect, and he came out within a few minutes and was cooperative.”

Thunberg said Lugo is being charged with suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm by a felon. He said other charges may be pending.

No one was injured in the incident.
