A San Diego Fire Department dispatcher said a fire broke out at 2:04 a.m. underneath a black BMW in front of 5898 Linda Vista Road near Goshen Street.

Firefighters sent one unit to extinguish the fire in the BMW, which sustained an estimated $3,000 in damages, the dispatcher said.

10News reported that a man behind the wheel of the BMW had managed to escape the vehicle unharmed before flames engulfed it.

Firefighters suspect the car’s gearbox may have exploded, causing the blaze, 10News said.
