During shoulder tap operations, minors are utilized by law enforcement to stand outside of stores and ask adults to purchase booze for them.

“The minors make it clear to the adults they are not old enough to buy alcohol for themselves,” Sgt Andrew Elia stated in a Riverside County Sheriff’s press release.

During the operation, nine locations were targeted.

Out of 21 adults being asked to buy alcohol, seven agreed to obtain alcohol for the underage minors.

The goals of the program are to reduce underage consumption of, and access to, alcohol by deterring adults from furnishing it to them outside of licensed premises, Sgt. Elia added.
