Temecula Police arrested a man at about 6:21 p.m., Friday in connection with an incident in which a woman’s purse was stolen, sheriff’s officials said.
Aaron Covany, 30, was arrested on charges related to the theft of the purse as well as the use of credit cards inside it, according to a Riverside County sheriff’s report.
Police launched an investigation after following up on a theft report.
The victim, who had been shopping at a local business, left her purse unattended in a shopping cart and later found that it was gone, Sgt. Dean Spivacke said.
When officers learned that the credit cards in the purse where being used at different stores, they were able to track down Covany, according to Spivacke.
In response to the incident, the Temecula Police Department took the time to remind members of the community to lock their vehicles and be attentive of their personal items.
