Jeffrey Langenhorst, 50, of Ontario, was pronounced dead at the scene of the confrontation early Saturday at an industrial area in the 4200 block of Hamner Avenue, according to the Riverside County Coroner’s Office.

Langenhorst led the deputies and Chino Police Department officers Saturday on a predawn, high-speed chase that started in San Bernardino County and ended in Eastvale.

Langenhorst’s car drove broke down on southbound Interstate 15 and came to a rest behind a business. Langenhorst jumped out, led officers on a foot chase and at some point entered the the truck, which had been left idling, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

Sheriff’s officials said Langenhorst was shot as he steered the truck toward them.

San Bernardino County sheriff’s investigators were in charge of the case.

They have not disclosed what started the chase, how many times Langenhorst was shot or why he was wanted.

You forgot to enter that he was a loving brother, son, human being with thousands of friends, children of his own and the good he had done in his life.
